		<description>I agree, when I was doing a lot of emailing (50,000+ per day) I would find that my subject lines were the most important aspect of the email. If people take the time to open it, they will usually at least read some of it.. but if it never gets opened, it was a waste!

Two tactics I use in emailing to increase my open rates:

1. A subject line that requires interaction. This works better for salesmen, and small business. An example might be: &quot;About our phone appointment&quot; and then the letter would request specific times on a given day like: &quot;I will be calling Tuesday, whats the best time and number to reach you?&quot;

This is kind of tricky when sending an email to 1,000+ people because they assume you wrote it to them specifically, which brings us to technique 2

2. Mail merge in the subject line. Using a persons name in the subject line will get instant eye attention, and the person will assume that you know them personally. Make sure not to use this in emails where its an HTML sales letter or newsletter. Use instead a simple text based email to get the best results. People assume its personal, and never think to imagine it was part of a &quot;campaing&quot;.
